It’s been a long time since my last newsletter, I know. Here are some updates:
I’m starting 4th year! It’s crazy how time flew by, feels like I haven’t been a student long enough
I’m slowly getting back into filming for YT. I took my brother’s old phone and I think I’m going to use it for future clips and such
I’m thinking of slowly growing an email list, maybe once or twice a week, a scheduled set will be sent out. I promise I won’t spam, I hate the spammy ones myself
I made my first Etsy sale! It’s pretty crazy, to be honest. If you’d like to check it out, click here!
So! First point of order: Socials
Blog~
I have a few book reviews to do as well as updating any links and such. It’s taking a long time (lol) but if you’re ever so inclined to buy a book from, say, Bookshop.org or Amazon (Canada), some do have links (so far it’s most 2021 reviews). If you just want to check out my Bookshop.org storefront, you can click here!
I am working on getting Waterstones affiliate links for my friends on the other side of the ocean!
My next long-form blog post is titled “Apps and Extensions you actually need for University/college” (still trying to figure out when best to send these. Morning? Lunch time? Dinner?)
Book reviews are taking up longer than I’d like because some I read at the beginning of the year and all I know is the rating and I’m just like “okay but what were my thoughts?” and it’s a whole mumbo-jumbo in my brain constantly.
I’m definitely also updating some other parts and updating some posts content-wise (adding affiliate links as mentioned earlier)
Instagram~
I’ve been fairly relaxed when it comes to my Instagram posts although I’ve recently had a thing with re-creating Pinterest pictures which have been a lot of fun but unfortunately, my follower count is going up and down *sobs*
Reels are still not my thing, at all, I think short-form content will be the bane of my existence.
Youtube~
I think most of what you’re going to get for now is some form of study with me’s, I can’t seem to work up the strength to sit down, record, edit and publish. Soon, I swear. I’ve tried vlogs so many times but I hate filming myself in public and I always forget it so footage ends up being far and in between.
But besides that, I’m working through the first Percy Jackson book for a plot break-down video and my self-imposed deadline is December 1st since the first two episodes are going to be released December 20th, 2023.
Discord~
If you want to come to chat with me and also check out the book club and the thoughts we have about the books chosen, come join the Discord! It’s a fun time and I post updates there almost regularly!
Books!
The moment everyone has been waiting for, I think. Me talking about books (as if I don’t do it enough on my socials)
I finished Divine Rivals, need book two like IMMEDIATELY and am reading The Devil Makes Three by Tori Bovalino, it’s always a fun time when a book is about books but it’s even more fun when as an LSA, I’m reading about the main character who also works in a library (and probably doesn’t get paid enough). I’m really excited to continue this book and onto more fun books!
The books I’d read before Divine Rivals were the Inheritance Game Trilogy and before that, I flew through the Air Awakens series by Elise Kova. The reviews are still being written, albeit very slowly but they’re being written! I enjoyed both series’ although I don’t understand why exactly The Inheritance Games was so, so hyped on TikTok. It was good, but I wouldn’t say phenomenal. Definitely think Air Awakens should have been more hyped and for longer but again, that’s my opinion.
Archaeo News! And some other fun announcements.
So for Archaeo news, I’ve got a few things happening:
Kouros Sculptures Unearthed in the Ancient Greek Sanctuary of Despotiko
A rare ancient saber discovered in Kyrgyzstan
An archaeological dig in Turkey has uncovered artifacts dating back 1,000 years
Lost Ancient Greek Sky Map Discovered at Monastery
Mosul archaeology project uncovers 'spectacular' Assyrian relics
Minoan Language Linear A Linked to Linear B in Groundbreaking Research ( I have no clue what to say about this one, honestly)
So please keep a lookout for these as Archaeo News posts on my Instagram!
Another topic I have started on my blog (don’t go looking for it, it’s not there yet) is called “Between the Scrolls” where I chat and discuss things in detail, like a true blog. The first post will be dissecting everything about Netflix’s Queen Cleopatra. Yes, it’s been a while and it has died down since, the outrage that is, but I think it’s still an important thing to talk about! It not only opens up a conversation about ancient history and how we represent it now but also about representation as a whole as well as how different groups of people were represented by people in the ancient world. I’m excited to find more topics to dive deep into. If you have any ideas, do send them my way via Instagram!
Well, that is it for today.
Love,
Mila
